We take a neuroaffirmative approach to supporting young people and adults with their neurodivergence. This means we understand that all brains are diverse and that autism and ADHD are variations in human experience. We don’t believe that autism or ADHD needs to be “fixed”, we believe that there is room in the world for all neurotypes and that the world is a better place when we appreciate neurodiversity.
We celebrate your strengths and differences whilst still acknowledging that you may have some challenges that need support. We will help to understand and implement the changes that will improve you or your child’s environment, help you and your child advocate for their needs and develop strategies with you to work with any challenges and play to your strengths.
Some areas we can help with are:
- Understanding what autism and ADHD are and your own strengths and challenges
- Treating co-morbid mental health needs e.g., anxiety, depression, trauma, OCD, emotional dysregulation, amongst others, tailored to your personal experience and neurodiversity
- Parenting a neurodivergent child or parenting when you are a neurodivergent parent yourself
- Support with friendships, building a positive self-identity and building confidence without changing who you are.
- Systemic family and couples therapy for families with neurodivergence
- Recommendations for school, university and work that can support you to flourish in these environments
- Strategies to manage challenges with attention, information processing, executive function and time management that can improve experience of education and work.
We endeavour to provide sessions that support you and your child’s needs which may involve the following:
- shorter sessions
- play based sessions
- sensory adaptations (turning down lights, movement breaks, use of sensory items)
- a longer therapy course to allow for engagement and consolidation of strategies
We will discuss any adjustments you need in our initial appointment and we welcome your input in getting this right for you.
