Cognitive and Neuropsychological Assessments

Private assessments by experienced NHS-trained clinicians in London.

At CPPL, we provide two distinct but complementary types of assessment: Cognitive Assessments and Neuropsychological Assessments. Both aim to understand how a young person thinks, learns, and functions day to day, helping families, schools, and rehabilitation teams put the right support in place.

All our assessments are carried out by clinicians with extensive NHS experience, specialising in neuropsychology and cognitive evaluation. Each clinician has a deep understanding of developmental, educational, and neurological conditions, ensuring every report is clear, evidence-based, and tailored to the individual.

Cognitive Assessments

Our learning and cognitive assessments explore the mental processes that underpin learning, problem-solving, and everyday performance. These assessments can identify specific learning differences and provide detailed recommendations to help young people reach their full potential at school and beyond.

We assess areas such as reasoning, memory, processing speed, attention, executive skills, and academic attainment in reading, writing, and maths. The results highlight both strengths and areas of difficulty, helping to explain why a student may be struggling or excelling in certain subjects.

Assessments can identify:

  • Dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia
  • Slow processing speed or working memory difficulties
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder (dyspraxia)
  • General learning difficulties or high cognitive ability (giftedness)

Each assessment includes:

  • A clinical interview to understand background, strengths, and challenges
  • Psychometric testing using age-appropriate, standardised tasks
  • School liaison, where needed, to understand classroom performance
  • A comprehensive written report detailing findings, diagnosis (where relevant), and practical recommendations
  • A feedback session to discuss the results and next steps

Our reports often inform applications for exam access arrangements, targeted learning plans, or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). They also guide teachers, tutors, and families in developing personalised strategies for learning, organisation, and confidence.

Neuropsychological Assessments

Our neuropsychological assessments are designed for children and young people with neurological conditions or injuries,  for example, following acquired brain injury, neurosurgery, stroke, tumour, or other complex medical events.

These assessments are often commissioned as part of rehabilitation programmes or medico-legal claims to understand the cognitive and emotional impact of neurological change and to plan appropriate support.

A typical assessment involves reviewing the individual’s medical, developmental, and educational history, followed by detailed testing of attention, memory, language, processing speed, and executive functioning. We also explore emotional regulation, fatigue, and social cognition, as these often interact with cognitive recovery.

Each assessment concludes with a clear, well-structured report that summarises findings and offers evidence-based recommendations for rehabilitation, educational planning, and day-to-day support. Where appropriate, we liaise with treating clinicians, case managers, and schools to ensure recommendations are understood and implemented effectively.
