How we work

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for OCD

We offer evidence-based treatment for OCD, following NICE guidelines. We understand how distressing intrusive thoughts can be, and our approach is empathic and collaborative. Together, we’ll explore your experiences and plan support that’s right for you. Our team has experience with all types of OCD, including contamination, sexual, relationship, harm, and violent fears.

What our clients say…

Our daughters sheer enthusiasm and enjoyment of life right now has completely dwarfed the OCD

” Gazal, Thank you so much for all the support you provided to [our daughter] in the past – she has digested your advice completely and made it part of her daily life with very positive effect. Overall, she has transformed herself. Her sheer enthusiasm and enjoyment of life right now has completely dwarfed the OCD and pushed it into a small corner of her daily life. [our daughter] has found the thing she truly loves – graphics – and has completely thrown herself into every aspect of it. She is really happy and content. [our daughter] has (perhaps through the horrible experience of fighting OCD at its worst) developed a really strong character.”

Sarah has been able to increase my child’s resilience and ability to manage their anxiety

“I can thoroughly recommend Sarah Rudebeck, who worked with my 14/15 year old child through a really difficult period during and coming out of the pandemic. Sarah immediately built a lovely rapport with my child, and seemed to be able to put them at ease and relate to everything they were going through.  She built a plan for ongoing care and adapted it to fit with their needs as matters developed. She kept in touch with me regularly on progress and also worked with their school to ensure all adults could support my child’s journey. At the end, Sarah took the time to reflect with my child on how far they had come and gave them a plan for dealing with any relapses. We feel Sarah has been able to increase my child’s resilience and ability to manage their anxiety so they are much better equipped for the challenges ahead.”

We would not hesitate in recommending Gazal

“Gazal came highly recommended to us; on our initial appointment she was able to establish the underlying issues regarding our teenage son’s condition. Gazal provided advice and guidance on the next steps regarding treatment. Within hours of the appointment Gazal had emailed a detailed letter summarising the observations she had made, along with extremely useful information. We passed this letter onto the appropriate clinicians and this assisted in helping set up a co-ordinated treatment plan for our son.
We were fortunate to see Gazal when we did as she was able to guide us through a very difficult time.
We would not hesitate in recommending Gazal as a highly experienced and knowledgeable clinical psychologist.”

We have had 100% success in [our child] overcoming his OCD

“We have had 100% success in [our child] overcoming his OCD and that is thanks to your [Gazal] help and support. It really feels like a miracle! [Our child] has had a full recovery and not one relapse since he finished his work with you. He has no fear whatsoever around any of the issues, where previously he’d struggled so much. He’s leading a full life, going out on his own all over London and staying at home on his own whenever we are out!

In short, we feel [our child] has made a full recovery and I wanted to thank you very much for everything that you did for us and him. The CBT sessions he had was the best money we ever spent and we never expected the phobias to disappear so completely!”

Sarah’s knowledge and care is invaluable

“Dr Sarah Rudebeck came into our child’s life after a life changing medical diagnosis. She worked with our child weekly over a long period of time to help them mentally digest the diagnosis, what it means for now, what it might mean for the future, their feelings about it and how to deal with those feelings about it and practical things to do to help with those emotions etc. Sarah could provide support and an outlet for our child that was beyond what we could provide as parents. Her knowledge and care is invaluable.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sessions will I, we or my child need?

We adhere to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidelines, which suggest between 14 to 20 sessions for various mental health challenges. The exact number of sessions will be determined following the assessment session. We will assess the therapy’s effectiveness every 7 sessions, discussing your experiences, reviewing objectives, and planning future sessions. Our priority is not to continue treatment or prolong the process when it is unnecessary and potentially unhelpful for you; we promise to maintain transparency and will communicate openly if we believe that additional sessions are not required.

I don’t want my GP knowing about sessions; is your service confidential?

Yes, our service is private and confidential. Everything discussed during sessions with you or your child remains within our team. We do not share information with other services or professionals without your consent.

The only exception to this is if we are concerned about the safety of your child, yourself, or someone else. In such cases, we have a legal and ethical duty to act. Wherever possible, we will speak with you first before contacting any other professional or service.

To maintain the quality and integrity of our work, we engage in regular clinical supervision. These discussions are also confidential—no names or identifiable information are shared.

How do I know which therapy is right for me and/or my child?

We are trained in a range of therapeutic approaches and will work with you to identify the most suitable therapy for you or your child. This decision will be guided by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommendations for specific mental health conditions, alongside our clinical judgement.

If we are not able to provide the most appropriate therapy for your needs, we will support you in finding a suitable alternative—either by recommending a qualified local professional or suggesting an appropriate NHS service.

What is a Clinical Psychologist and how are they different to counsellors and psychotherapists?

There are many terms used to describe professionals who offer therapy—such as counsellor, psychotherapist, therapist, or psychologist. However, these titles can reflect very different levels and types of training.

Clinical Psychologist is a protected title. To use it, a person must have completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology, gained relevant experience, and successfully completed a three-year Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. This training is delivered through a combination of university teaching and supervised clinical practice within NHS mental health services. Entry into this programme is highly competitive, meaning most Clinical Psychologists have several years of experience before beginning their doctoral training.

Once qualified, Clinical Psychologists must register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which regulates their professional practice, ensures they meet rigorous training standards, and holds them to a strict code of conduct.

In contrast, titles like counsellor, psychotherapist, or therapist are not legally protected in the UK. Individuals using these titles may have varying levels of training and experience, as there is no single required qualification or regulatory body for these roles. While many are highly skilled and well-trained, it’s important to check a professional’s qualifications and background to ensure you’re receiving safe and effective care.
